1. Summer Magic
A very old fashioned Disney film about a city family that moves to the country. This is considered a classic... by me. You'll just have to take my word for it.

2. The Parent Trap
NOT the Lindsay Lohan version. The Hayley Mills version. Lovely scenes of summer camp and Southern California galore.

3. The Moon-spinners
I know, I know. Another Hayley Mills movie? Hey, she was a big Disney star back in the day! I promise this is the last one. But it's the best one. Hayley goes to Greece with her aunt and gets involved in a jewel heist. And meets a hot British gent.

4. Gidget
Woah, those dudes are so tan! Skin cancer alert. Anyway, this series of movies is all about love triangles and surfing. But you have to always root for Moondoggie (on the left). His love for the Gidge is pure as Waikiki sand.

5. Now and Then
Wicked awesome 60's/70's soundtrack, first of all. This movie was all the rage when I was 11. Best friends having silly adventures. That was indeed my life. Kind of still is.

6. The Sandlot
I try to watch this film every summer. I grew up in a very baseball/little league-centric family, so it reminds me of my roots. And it's funny as hell.

7. Summertime
Ok, after all those kiddy films we need to add a little drama in the mix. Kat Hepburn goes to Venice and falls in love. Sigh. In the summertime.

8. Stand by Me
Kind of the male equivalent of Now and Then. The boys are so adorable, especially River Phoenix, RIP. And Jerry O'Connell is fat. We must not forget that.

9. Heavyweights
Two words: Tony Perkis. Stiller just doesn't make 'em like he used to. Somebody buy this for me on DVD, please.

10. Wet Hot American Summer
This is the best summer-themed movie ever, in my opinion. I have a feeling that director David Wain just reveled in the glory of summer and summer camp by making it as over-the-top as possible. And the cast? Don't get me started.

I'd have thrown in Dazed and Confused and Stand by Me, but good list.
Is Milo and Otis a summer movie? You might think about adding that one in as well.
Nice looking blog you have here. Good work.
whoa - Stand by Me is already in there!! My baad. Good f movie.
I know for real. Dazed and Confused... Hmm... It could count, I suppose, since it's the VERY last day of school before summer break. But I don't know about M & O. Great movie though.
Interesting how many summer movies are also coming-of-age movies.
Also, Dazed and Confused is 85% AFTER school's out.
OK - I'm going to leave your blog alone now.
I just put "Moon-Spinners" in G&G's netflix queue.....it says "long wait". I blame you, Allie!
