Captain Hook's Waltz

I just bought the original cast recording of "Peter Pan" and feeling so nostalgic. I played the heck out of the VHS recording my family had of a 1960s version for TV, with Mary Martin (as Peter Pan) and Cyril Ritchard (as Mr. Darling/Captain Hook).

THEN I discovered that youtube.com has most of the recording in installments. Which is good news for me because they haven't released it on DVD yet. Which is a travesty.

Here's a taste: a funny little song by Captain Hook, played beautifully by Sir Cyril Ritchard.

Seriously, people: I feel like I'm four years old when I listen/watch this. It makes me so happy.

Oh my goodness, we watched this ALL THE TIME. I think I subconsciously sang "I Won't Grow Up" in my head all throughout childhood. Did you know Mrs. Darling is also the mom in High Society?

Oh, and talk about gender confusion with Mary Martin. I *knew* she was a woman, and yet I would forget and would think she was a boy.

I remember being really mad that Peter Pan was played by a woman. Because I was kind of in love with Peter Pan as a child. And I still am. So does that make me a lesbian? These are questions I still grapple with. Just kidding, I'm very secure in my sexuality.

But seriously, Mary Martin is my hero. Moo, LETS WATCH THE WHOLE THING TOGETHER AND SING ALONG! "And one by one... THEY'LL DIE! Ole!"
