Top 10 Films of 2008

I meant to do this when it was still the year 2008, but alas, I was too busy. So here are my picks, in no particular order.

Mamma Mia
Movie musicals are a rarity these days, and I think this film was pulled off well. It boasted a spectacular cast and the Greek setting was gorgeous.

Wall-E

I didn't expect to be challenged by this film. It just proves that you can never underestimate the power of Pixar.

Valkyrie
I'm really happy Bryan Singer directed this film; what a talented guy. I'm in love with the ensemble cast most of all.

The Dark Knight

Obviously the best part about this movie is Heath Ledger's stirring performance, and I'm not just saying that because of his passing.

Baby Mama
Probably my favorite comedy of 2008, proven by the fact that I've inherited a catchphrase from it: "Oh OHH!"

The Fall
This film was my favorite in the visual category. Every shot was all about vibrant color, strong movement, and sweeping landscapes.

Be Kind, Rewind
Michel Gondry has a wonderful sense of humor. Jack Black and Mos Def were perfect together.

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day

A throwback to 1930's madcap comedies. Amy Adams is a gem, not a surprise there.

Penelope
This film was so artfully done; you can see it in the details. The story is inspiring and quirky.

Slumdog Millionaire

Danny Boyle directed this traditional Bollywood epic, about a boy from the slums of Mumbai achieving "happily ever after." Very unique film.
