On Friday, Boyfriend and I saw "The Watchmen." I had to shield my eyes throughout a lot of it because of the gratuitous violence. It is probably the most violent movie I've ever seen. "The Watchmen" is so gritty and so dark and I'm not sure if I agree with the message that it's trying to convey: that our flawed human-kind can be made better through horrific disasters that take many lives because it brings everyone together and reminds us of the sanctity of life. That's probably a really convoluted way to say it...
But in the film, the horrific disaster is forced with this outcome in mind. One of the Watchmen deliberately causes a catastrophe to occur so that the world can be a better place. Yuck. I find that to be such a delusional concept-- sacrifice the lives of many so that the race as a whole can find peace. Meanwhile, the Watchmen themselves are in no way sacrificial or heroic, they all live happily ever after. I mean, except for the ones who get blown up and thrown out windows.

Then on Sunday night I saw "Me and You and Everyone We Know" with Stacey and Jake. It's an independent film that was released in 2005. I really enjoyed it. The cinematography is colorful and warm. The characters have so much heart to them. One of my favorite characters is this little neighbor girl who is obsessed with her hope chest. She likes buying kitchen appliances and planning out where everything will go in her house once she's married.
You should watch the trailer.
"I wanna be swept off my feet, you know? I want my children to have magical powers. I am prepared for amazing things to happen."
Also, this is a lovely part of the film:
