Tita Bonita

Ever since I first saw Tita at vacation bible school when I was seven years old, I knew I wanted to be her friend. So when my family happened to move across the street from her family the summer of '94, I was so excited that the opportunity of a friendship was so in-reach, but at the same time I was too shy to make the leap. So we proceeded to spy on each other the first few weeks... until my Dad dragged me and my brother over to her house and ever-so decorously introduced us: "This is Allie and Max. Play together. Be home by sunset." Thanks, Dad.

So that started it. That started years of make-believe, snits, adventures at the creek, trips to the hospital, Christmas performances, cross-dressing, beach days, songwriting, bonfires, fishing, walking home from school together, hilarious mishaps, camping, waterslides, sprinklers, midnight movies, late-night phone calls, countless shopping trips, dogwalking, zillions of inside jokes, Tigers in the City performances, drunken escapades, letters, emails, boyfriends, complaints, laughter, love.

Happy Birthday, my sister.
