Seven Reasons Why I Loved "Whip It"

1.The tag line, Be your own hero. So empowering for girls. Can't stress that enough.

2. That whole camaraderie thing. Watching Whip It, you want to be a part of a team like the Hurl Scouts. They've got each others' backs; they party together, get pissed together, and laugh a lot together.

3. The music. Oh so good. You've got The Ramones, Jens Lekman, 38 Special, The Raveonettes... lots to inspire you to go out and kick some ass. Take a listen here.

4. Drew Barrymore. Not only does she direct this film, but she also costars, and totally hams it up for the sake of comedy. The first time you see her in it, she's sporting a neck brace. Blood streams down her pretty face after an elbow to the nose incident on the track. And all the while, she totally rocks rainbow-streaked locks. Effing awesome.

5. Andrew Wilson. Plays the Hurl Scouts' coach. Listens to Wilson Phillips. Dons cutoff jean shorts for the whole movie. Is hella cute. (Also, his bros are Luke and Owen!)

6. Alia Shawkat as Ellen Page's BFF. She's no longer Maebe from Arrested Development. She is hilarious in this movie. Smart, kinda slutty, and super sassy. Love it.

7. Lots of tough chicks, lots of eyeliner. Throwin' punches. Big-ass bruises. Knocking snobby girls off stair cases. I have to admit, it got me a bit riled up. I was definitely ready to start something in the theater parking lot with whoever dared to cross me.
