Last night I watched Before Sunrise, starring Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke. It was made in 1995 by Richard Linklater. It's about an American guy and a French girl who meet on the Eurorail. They strike up a conversation, and want to keep talking, so they both get off in Vienna and spend the whole day walking around the city, talking, and inevitably developing feelings for each other. But they know that they will soon have to part ways.
I love that it's set in Vienna, a beautiful and underrated city, that I hold near and dear to my heart. And the conversations they have are very poignant and honest; they're both young and searching for love and connection, and I guess I can relate.
I'm not the biggest fan of Ethan Hawke, though. He always has gross facial hair, and in the film he's a walking contradiction, spouting off his cynical views on love, all the while falling hard for Julie Delpy, who by the way, is AMAZING. I just adore her. Her character is so intelligent and truly believes in love, which is the perfect juxtaposition to Hawke's character.
Now I get to watch Before Sunset, made in 2004, in which the characters meet again!
Meanwhile, please watch my favorite part from Before Sunrise, which takes place in a listening booth of a record store. I love the romantic tension and wandering eyes... Great song too!

Great review! I *love* the speech when he's trying to convince her to get off the train with him. So lovely. Can't wait to see what you think of Before Sunset!
ooh i've always wanted to see this! thanks for the review.
but one question...
how are you NOT a fan of Ethan Hawke?
I guess I've never found him attractive. He always seems so snarky and unromantic. BUT I didn't mind him too much in this film.
