Delicious Weekend
Saturday: Seattle was blessed with gorgeous weather, so Stacey, Susie, and I had a classic Seattle afternoon. We went down to Pike Place Market, crawling with tourists, and managed to get a seat at the Athenian Inn (remember in Sleepless in Seattle when Tom Hanks and Rob Reiner have lunch there?); this was definitely something to cross off my city bucket list. I got shrimp bisque, french fries, and we all got frosty mugs of Manny's. And got kind of day-drunk. Pssh. Don't judge. It happens. After stumbling around Post Alley, we went into Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe and saw their mummies and shrunken heads and other weird things. Then we stopped by my favorite French bakery, Le Panier, and got coffee, macarons, and sat in the sun and watched the boats come in and out of the Sound.
Sunday: A month after my 25th birthday, I finally used the Whole Foods gift card my mom graciously gave me. Stacey, Alex, and I made seared scallops (I'm in love with scallops. In love, I tell you). We used Alton Brown's super-simple recipe. And I made a delicious little sauce to go with it. We also had an amazing bottle of chardonnay, Macrina bread, roasted asparagus with Parmesan Reggiano; and Stacey made chocolate cake, which we had with homemade raspberry sauce and fresh whipped cream. It was such a treat. I don't plan on eating much today.
