Last night I saw...

Another Earth.

On the eve of the discovery of a duplicate Earth, tragedy strikes and the lives of two strangers become irrevocably intertwined. Brit Marling plays Rhoda, the main character. She also co-wrote the film. Says Marling of the lack of interesting female characters in today's films: "I didn't recognize any of the women in those stories; they weren't like my mother or my grandmother, or like these strong, interesting, charismatic women that I see around me all the time; I wasn't finding them in the things I was reading, so I thought, maybe I should try to figure out how to write them." I'm so thankful for the things she's creating/will be creating. Another Earth is a stupendous example of that.
