So, I was a sort of jumbled head-case in high school. My freshman year, I was into theatre; my sophomore year, I was a cheerleader; my junior year, I had braces and was into art; and my senior year, I was doing theatre and art... All through those years, I could be described as brainy, shy, introspective, bookish, and definitely had some inner-angst going on. I kept a journal (black composition books) and scribbled down complaints about my fellow classmates, yearnings for certain boys to notice me, a yearning to rebel (although I never did), poems, collages, sketches... Other than that, I didn't really have a place to connect with other gals my age who were in a similar predicament and who enjoyed Molly Ringwald movies and The Ramones and sarcasm as much as I did.
Oh, how I wish Rookie Mag was around 2000-2004. It's a site specifically for teenage girls and what they may be going through as young females. Created by Tavi!!!! There is also smart writing and interesting visuals. AKA, things that might not always be found in magazines like Seventeen or the music of Selena Gomez. Look at me, getting all snarky about things that shouldn't matter to me because I am 25! It's that angsty teenage girl inside of me coming out again... I do enjoy letting her out from time-to-time, with her gross long hair, braces, and Ziploc of soy nuts (I wish I had pictures; I'll try to scan some in later; Mom, send me my junior year school pic, it's the worst. And also a pic of me as a cheerleader; thanks, Mom!).
Anyway, please check out Rookie for awesome content and fun things to look at... like, such as, a video from "Parks & Rec" ladies, an interview with Carrie Brownstein, and a list of teen witches.
