Love to Mull

Yesterday I had sooo much mulled wine. First my room-mate made some, then my boyfriend made a pot. It is the best snowy cold weather drink; warm, spicy, and ALCOHOLIC! :)

Tweets from last night....

Red wine + dark chocolate + "The Holiday" = the biggest cliche ever.

...

I wish Jude Law would knock on my door in the middle of the night.

...

And can I just say... Jude Law in glasses.... WOW.

...

How does Nancy Meyers always know the way to my heart???!

...

I think being a woman in this day and age is fabulous. And I'm not just saying that because I've been drinking.

Just livin' the dream.

My life = complete

Well, they've done it. They've made a special Hello Kitty brand edition of wine. Pictured is Hello Kitty Sweet Pink Demi-Sec by Italian wine label Torti Tenimenti Castelrotto. So basically, I'll be scouring supermarkets, liquor stores, et al for this Holy Grail.

This little piggy is peacing out.

Hello, Friday afternoon! Nice of you to finally show up.

Tonight, it's pizza, wine, and crafts (knitting for him, painting for me) with Boyfriend. As for the rest of the weekend, who knows? The world is my oyster.

Of note:

Just discovered Har Mar Superstar. He's crazy, but great for dance parties.
I'll be watching the very last Conan-featuring Tonight Show tonight, at 11:35. Show your support for Coco!
OMG, hipsters... Check out this Coachella poster!
Love this clothing!
If only I could get Boyfriend to wear something like this...

*PS: isn't that photo I-wanna-die cute??

Weekend Recap

Friday Night:
Babysat Samantha until 11pm. Watched "The Jungle Book" with her.
Joe was at a bar in Ballard so I met him there and we walked around the neighborhood till the wee hours, singing Michael McDonald songs.

Saturday:
Woke up at 10:30 and ate cereal on my couch and watched "The Best Week Ever." Accompanied Leslie to her haircut at Habitude salon in Ballard. From there, we headed downtown, where I purchased some Cacao Body Butter from the Body Shop and some Laura Mercier blush for way too much money. Then the woman at the Laura Mercier counter in Nordstrom did my makeup and it was AWFUL. She put BABY BLUE SHADOW ON MY EYES. I looked like I had just graduated from the whore academy. Caution: do not get your makeup done by the lady at the Laura Mercier counter who has short black hair and is kind of plump.
Went home, redid my makeup, and baked a loaf of cranberry orange bread for a potluck in honor of friend Cash who is moving away. The party was wonderful; I saw many-a wonderful friend, including the lovely Vehorn sisters. Unfortunately the night took a turn for the worse when we arrived for part two of the party at Teddy's on Roosevelt. The wine I had drunk caught up with me, and I was sent home. Joe gave me a peck, shut the car door, and I was whisked away by Leslie. I went straight to bed. It was quite necessary.

Sunday:
Wine hangovers are a nightmare. So I spent the morning on my couch, eating pumpkin pie, drinking coffee, and watching "Get Smart." But I had to face the day. And what better way to cure a "wineover" than a hike in the crisp wilderness of Washington state? Went to Snoqualamie Falls with Joe, his house-mate Dave, and Stacey. It was so refreshing... the lichen on the trees (I love lichen and I like lovin'), the green shade of the river... Afterword we made a well-deserved stop at a Dairy Freeze in North Bend and feasted on fries and shakes.
Church in the evening with Joe and Dave. We all almost fell asleep. Not that Richard is a bore of a preacher. I just don't think evening church is for me. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, which leads to me wanting to take a nap on Joe's shoulder.
Stacey and I were craving SALAD. Ran to Freddie's, got the fixens, and had a sort of "BLAT" salad for dinner while watching "Forgetting Sarah Marshall." That movie has way too much full-frontal male nudity for my liking.

And that was my weekend.

Emmylou, I Love You

My relationship with Emmylou Harris began in Germany last year, when my friend Liz taught me one of her songs as we were walking through a small German town, trying to get un-lost.
We love singing together Liz and I. There she is looking lovely. And here's a link to us singing one of our favorite tunes, "Above All," because we are such good Christians:
http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=507524415270

Yes, so the song was called "Boulder to Birmingham," and I loved the lyrics and the melody... So sad...

"I don't wanna hear a love song

I got on this airplane just to fly

And I know there's life below

But all that it can show me

Is the prairie and the sky

And I don't want to hear a sad story

Full of heartbreak and desire

The last time I felt like this

It was in the wilderness and the canyon was on fire

And I stood on the mountain in the night and I watched it burn

I watched it burn, I watched it burn.

Anyway, flashfoward almost a year later, and I decide to look up some of Emmylou's songs, because I don't know any of them. And because I had a mean case of the blues and needed something to console my inner-being. I ended up buying eleven of them off of itunes, and now she's all I listen to. She is the most beautiful woman, with the most heartbreaking voice. Listening to Emmylou makes me want to become a country singer. Not a mainstream country singer like Carrie Underwood and all those hacks. But a real one like Emmylou, or June Carter, or Tammy Wynette, or Dolly. I love all these women. They're real women who have experienced broken hearts and mend their broken hearts through music.
One of my favorite songs by Emmylou is "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues." Tom Robbins wrote a novel with the same title. I am such a cowgirl at heart. Maybe it was my upbringing in the scorching hills of Santa Barbara. But I do want to move to Montana, where there is only prairie and sky, and live on a ranch, and brush my horse all day long.
My other favorite is "Two More Bottles of Wine." Enough said.

Pardon Moi

Sorry for:

a) Not updating in awhile
b) Being very brief

I have finally made it to Paris. Ah, my heart is singing sweet French songs, as I walk down the Rue du Bac, the Rue St. Germain, and through the Luxembourg Gardens.
The people of the city are so kind. During my first French dinner last night, we sat between two tables of men, on our left and on our right, buying us coffee and wine. Voila. Parisians do not hate Americans.
Today was our visit to the Musee D'Orsay. Heaven, I am in heaven... Monet, Degas, Cezanne. Tre Bien!
Life is so good; expect nothing less in Paris.

Promising more for later,

Allie
