Ever heard of David Mania? Its similar to Beatle Mania, except it pertains to a gigantic marble sculpture by Michelangelo that is the ideal of the human form. And believe me, what a human form it is! I thought it was going to be overrated, but no, it is actually true that it is one of the most impressive pieces of art in the world. Other things that I thought were going to be overrated but actually are not: "The Birth of Venus" by Botticelli, "Primavera" by Botticelli, and GELATO. I try to justify the amount I eat by walking around a lot.
Also, I saw "Judith Slaying Holofernes" which is one of my favorite paintings. Blood is everywhere, as Judith triumphantly saws off the head of that jerk Holofernes... its on the sheets, on her arm... The detail is fascinating. Her expression is my favorite; it is a look of frustration and concentration. She seems to be thinking, "Why wont this darn thing come off?"
