Homegrown

Homegrown Sustainable Sandwich Shop had only been officially open a mere 40 minutes when Stacey and I arrived to get our paws on some of their gourmet goods. Foodies and Fremonters alike began streaming in steadily soon after.

Their locale is perfect: On Fremont Ave., amidst boutiques and coffee shops. And their cause is even more spot-on: "to create sandwiches out of sustainable ingredients but also to make sandwich creation sustainable itself."

Okay
, you're asking, that's honorable and all, but is the food good? You bet. I had half of a
flank steak sandwich (with grilled portobello, caramelized onions, bleu cheese, chimmichurri, and mixed greens on country french bread) and a cup of wild mushroom soup. Everything was so flavorful. And it only set me back eight bucks. And Stacey got a turkey, bacon and avocado sandwich, with Gouda, tomato, lettuce and aioli. She lurved it.

Being brand-spanking new and all, Homegrown understandably has a few kinks to work out. But that's definitely not deterring me; I'm already daydreaming about when I can go back... that chicken confit sandwich needs to get in my belly.
...

Also: We saw a celeb there. Such a big deal. Niels from "Beauty and the Geek" season 3 (see below). Apparently he works for a software company here in Seattle. Yah, I was pretty starstruck.

Awww, I'm hungry already. I have a question for you, O Food Savvy One, have you tried Anchovies and Olives? Or Oddfellows? I'd like your opinion. :)

So glad you like it. The owner, Ben Friedman and I have grown up together :). Hid dad and mine have worked together for like 30 years...I'd say they're in a more committed relationship than my dad and mom :). Haha. Yeah, I'll let him know that he got a thumbs up from you!
